There really is only one major moving part and that&#039;s the motor, so there&#039;s not much maintenance required on the running gear of an electric vehicle.  However, the lead/acid batteries require monthly maintenance.  I check the level of electrolyte and fill with distilled water as needed and measure the specific gravity of each cell.  It takes about a half hour per month.  I also clean the tops of the batteries with a solution of baking soda and water to keep them free of acid.  Every few months I take a close look at all the battery connections.  After two years, I&#039;ve only had two connections build up any corrosion and it was easy to clean off.

Of course the original car was 23 years old when I started this project so now it&#039;s 26 years old but I&#039;ve been lucky.  I&#039;ve replaced the latch on the glove box door, two tires and one battery.  The brakes were new when I started.  So, I&#039;ve really had good luck.  Not much maintenance on my electric vehicle in two years of daily driving.</description>
